Spyker C8 Double 12 S ‘#008’

The Ultimate Spyker

Introduced in 2002 to commemorate the opening of a new Spyker Factory the Spyker C8 Double 12 S was a road-going version of the Double 12R Le Mans racer, utilizing the same extended wheelbase and body of the Le Mans cars, the Double 12 S was also meant to homologate the race version for use in the GT2 class. Unfortunately, with only 15 Double 12’s ever being built, the required number of 25 was never met.

The Double 12 moniker stems from a special event in Spyker’s history. In 1922 Selwyn Edge, a businessman and famed speed record holder used an aerodynamically bodied Spyker C4 to break the ‘Double 12’ speed and distance record. Consisting of two 12 hour average speed trials Edge achieved a distance of 1,782 miles 1,066 yards (2,868 km 693 m) at an average speed of 74.27 mph (119.53 km/h) for the aggregate 24 hours.

While the body and wheelbase are the same as the racing version, this is no hardcore homologation special. With the signature spectacular leather and aluminium laden Spyker interior including exposed gear linkage and comfortable suspension, this racing shape is perfectly useable on the public road. While all regular Double 12’s were fitted by 4.2 Liter Audi V8’s producing between 400-420 BHP depending on their state of tune, Chassis number 008 is unique in that it was fitted with a 4 liter BMW based racing engine built and tuned by swiss engine builder Henri Mader, at the time a major force in the racing world. The 90 degree V8 is capable of revving to a mighty 7500 RPM in street tune, producing 450HP and 425Nm of torque at max RPM, however with all the safeties and durability programs off its capable of far more. With the engine built to handle 10000 RPM in race trim.

#008 Spent a large amount of its life inside the office of Spyker founder Victor Muller, and as a result, has only accrued less than 900km in its lifetime. It is sold with a dutch registration.
