Dat is precies waar deze auto zijn kracht vindt. LSCX 247 is geen gewone gesloten Cloud waarbij simpelweg het dak is verwijderd, maar een zorgvuldig opgebouwde Drophead Coupé Conversion met oog voor proportie, stijfheid en afwerking. De auto heeft de juiste presence: lange flanken, een statige neus, open vierpersoons luxe en die typische Rolls-Royce vanzelfsprekendheid die je niet kunt namaken met alleen chroom en leer.
Techniek & rijbeleving
Onder de motorkap ligt de bekende 6.230 cc V8, gekoppeld aan de soepele viertraps automaat. Het is een aandrijflijn die perfect past bij het karakter van deze auto: krachtig zonder nadruk, stil zonder levenloos te zijn en vooral gemaakt om grote afstanden ontspannen af te leggen.
De motor loopt mooi, de automaat schakelt vloeiend en het onderstel voelt solide en vertrouwenwekkend aan. De auto is fris, verzorgd en mechanisch gezond.
Dit is geen museumstuk dat alleen mooi staat onder showroomverlichting. Dit is een Cloud III die uitnodigt om gebruikt te worden, voor concoursritten, zomeravonden, lange weekenden of simpelweg omdat rijden in een open Rolls-Royce nog altijd een van de fijnere vormen van automobilisme is.
Uitvoering & presentatie
De kleurstelling is bijzonder sterk: Champagne Gold Metallic met een beige interieur en een bijpassende beige canvas kap. Het resultaat is stijlvol zonder opzichtig te worden. Precies de balans die bij een Rolls-Royce hoort.
De lak is strak, de carrosseriedelen sluiten netjes aan en het chroomwerk verkeert in mooie staat. De kap sluit goed en geeft de auto zowel open als gesloten een zeer verzorgde uitstraling.
Binnenin is het klassieke Rolls-Royce-gevoel volledig aanwezig. Het beige leer is verzorgd, de Smiths-instrumentatie werkt naar behoren en het wortelnotenhout op dashboard en deurpanelen zijn heel netjes. Juist dat hout maakt bij een Silver Cloud het verschil: het bepaalt of een auto “netjes” is, of echt klasse heeft. In dit geval is het afwerkingsniveau duidelijk een van de sterke punten van de auto.
Een Rolls-Royce zoals ze niet meer worden gebouwd en juist daarom zo aantrekkelijk.
